Originally uploaded for a metal forum thread concerning ones favorite ''epic'' compositions. Figured that I'd might as well post them here. And just for the heck of it I'll introduce each song in a dramatic manner.

Also note that these are by no means the most ''epic epics'', as there are plenty of songs lasting for well over an hour.

5. Nightwish - Ghost love score (10:02), orchestral/operatic melodic metal from 2004. Epic enough to create an own internet meme, apparently. Though it sounds somewhat like a blockbuster film score with some guitars here and there, there is a very strong romantic-age feel in it as well, especially in the lyrics. [link]

4. Venom - At War With Satan (19:56), Blackened speed metal from 1983. A really, really long journey with fast guitar riffs, evil sounding instrumental parts and morbid vocals.

3. Metallica - The Call of Ktulu (S&M version) (09:34), orchestral thrash Metal from 1999, normal version made in 1984. The power, the enormous tension and the wonderful orchestral arrangement make this version of ''The Call of Ktulu'' a true highlight in Metallica's entire career.

2. Cacophony - Speed Metal Symphony (09:32), neoclassical metal from 1987. Metals greatest guitar vitreouses, Jason Becker and Marty Friedman, joins up to create this masterpiece. A tech-freaks wet dream.

1. Blind Guardian - And Then There Was Silence (14:16), progressive power metal from 2002. Blind guardian is known for playing a very epic type of metal, and this is their most epic track from their most epic album. A truly bombastic orchestral and choral composition about the Iliad, and very possibly one of the most pompous songs ever made.
